a) This change from young insect to adult insect is referred to as metamorphosis. It involves growth of the cells that constitute the insect and their consequent differentiation from the time it is laid.
What this means is that the insect acquires a change in physical appearance, at times in feeding habits and in behavior(this change, is its life-cycle).
b) There are three forms of metamorphosis: non, incomplete and complete metamorphosis.
Butterflies undergo complete while grasshoppers incomplete. The complete cycle involves 4 stages; egg, larva, pupa and adult while the incomplete lacks one-the pupal(resting) stage.
