Jharkhand was created out of Bihar on 15th November 2000. Jharkhand was formed out of the 18 divisions of Southern Bihar, This State comprises around 35 percent of Bihar's population.

It also establishes 65 percent of the state's income produced by the coal deposits and the steel mills. The basis for formulating the new states was socio-political foundation not linguistic.
