Janice and I had been the best of friends since primary school days. We shared an undeniable chemistry and were comfortable with each other's company. However, there was one thing that she did that made me feel deeply disappointed with her. I was a happy-go-lucky who got along with everyone except Judy. I really could not figure out why she hated me to the core. Friends suggested that it was because of her jealousy towards my academic results. She had always wanted to be first but always ended up behind me. Soon, the examinations were just around the corner. I could see her working extremely hard, poring through her books and files. However, when the results were released, I was again the top of the class. Judy was extremely upset. Little did I know that trouble was brewing in my way as a result of that. One day, when we came back to class after recess, Judy exclaimed that her cellphone was missing. Our form teacher, Miss Lim, searched everyone's bag. After looking through mine, she pulled out a sleek silver white Sony Ericsson W850i that never belonged to me. Everyone was stunned. I was baffled by the whole situation. For a moment, I stood rooted to the ground utterly speechless. "Linda, why did you steal Judy's cellphone?" demanded Miss Lim, visibly let down by her star pupil. I tried my best to prove my innocence but to no avail. The evidence was stacked against me. I was questioned by the principal and the school soon informed my parents of the case. They arrived hurriedly, looking glum and bewildered. I could understand their frustration. It would definitely be heart-wrenching to see their beloved daughter so accused and defenseless. Soon afterwards, I was severely reprimanded by my father. I was furious with Judy. She was such a wicked person to have set me up in this manner. An infernal thought came to my mind and I called my best friend, Janice. I told her of my plot to exact revenge on Judy. "I would put your wallet in Judy's bag and we could accuse her of stealing it," I said with an evil grin. "But why would you want to do that? Just let this matter rest, Linda. Two wrongs do not make a right," Janice advised. "An eye for an eye, Janice. She got me into hot soup. My parents and teachers don't trust me anymore," I retorted. After much persuasion, Janice finally agreed to lend me her wallet. On the appointed day, I hung back in class during recess. After everyone had left for the cafeteria, I made my way to Judy's seat, heart pounding. I stood next to it and thought. But what if I should get caught? It would be all the worse for me. Just as I fished out Janice's wallet from my pocket, intending to slip it into Judy's open bag, there was a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and to my consternation saw Miss Lim! Apparently, Janice had ratted on me. Judy, the intended victim, had come away unscathed. Instead I was the one in trouble. Then, when the principal got wind of the incident, he had my parents called in again. I got quite an earful that morning on top of my two-week suspension from school. My practical joke had gone awry. I guess I should not blame Janice for letting the cat out of the bag on me. Perhaps it had been too much for her conscience to bear. It could also be that her sense of Christian morality had gotten the better of her. In the final analysis, it was my thirst for revenge that was the cause of my undoing. I would surely remember this day for a long time because of the prank that backfired on me.

Dear Ashutosh

Hope you must be enjoying your new class after you have passed your final exams with flying colors. I have also now come to class tenth and as the pattern of examination has changed, we are a little anxious about exams this year. We had an interesting event in our class recently and it's so hilarious that I can't stop myself from sharing it here.
It so happened that our History teacher, who is the class teacher of X B sent me to convey a message in her class to collect the map work they had recently done. I also told them to keep the notebooks on the teacher's table in their class. Next day the History teacher reprimanded me for not conveying her message. I went to their class and asked why they hadn't kept their notebooks on the teacher's table and they made some excuses. Our class told the teacher that her class been creating a history in late submission and they would submit it only after they succeed. The teacher must have discussed it with her class and the whole class was after me for having said that. They sort of backfired and started telling half-cooked tales. They had obviously taken the comment seriously and wanted to do everything to prove that they were not creating a history. Hahaha!
Do write about yourself and try to come and visit me during vacation. Bye till then.

Love
Sushant
