What was the feeling when your 10th board exam result was about to be displayed?
OH MY GOD.
That day was just so special. Well, it became special after the results came out. Before that, it was the most dreaded day ever.
I remember, when i was in lower standards and I would panic before my result, my mom would try to calm me down by saying, “This isn’t your board result. So relax.”
But this time, there was no saying that. My result was supposed to come out at 11 am. I had a superb plan. I would sleep till 10.30. So that will give me just 30 minutes of stress. But as luck would have it, I woke up at 7 am. Those four hours were excruciatingly painfull. My friends and I kept on talking to each other to ease our tension. But then, it was not much of a relief.
Finally, the time came when i sat in front of the computer screen to check my supposed “life deciding verdict”*. I entered my roll number and sat in front of my computer, boiling with anticipation, with my parents standing behind me. I think that added to the overall pressure that i was already experiencing.
The page kept on loading, loading and finally BOOM! My result was on the screen. Being a student of the west bengal state board, all i wanted was a 90%. Actually, thats what my parents wanted. So, I convined myself I too wanted that. For those who are not aware, getting a 90% in WB BOARD is a big deal.
My eyes scrolled down towards the computer screen and i saw it was a total of 635 out of 700.
GOAL REACHED. IT WAS A LITTLE OVER 90%.
I saw my dad’s face and felt that all my efforts were worth it, for I could see the pride on his face. Then i went ahead to check my subject wise marks. For once, i did not believe it was my result. I would like to reveal the shocking part here. It said:
PHYSICAL SCIENCE : 100
BIOLOGY: 100
MATHEMATICS: 97
Well, i never considered myself to be a student of that league as i never in my life stood first or second in my class. But then, hardwork pays.
A look at my report card and all i could think of was those sleepless nights, those missed movies, those unread novels, those unwritten stories and those missed parties.
I don’t know if i had felt HAPPY. I dont think I got that feeling that i get when someone praises me for a song i sing or a peice I write. I felt so very content for giving my father what he wanted. Also, it bolstered my confidence in myself. That’s it.
