Wedge is one of the simple machines having one end sharp.  It is an inclined plane and a device that makes our work easier and faster. Examples of wedges are axes, bolo, knife, spade, etc.

Wedges make our work convenient by increasing distance and decreasing force. In between a longer wedge and a shorter wedge, the longer one would make work easier.

It's because the longer wedge has more mechanical advantage than the shorter wedge.
