If your friend is using a device that is dragging him away from his real life then by  being a good friend you can advice him about the ill effects of using a mobile phone . Then point out to him all the things he's missing . Introduce him to some other activity like playing the guitar or things he may like. By doing so you are helping your friend from falling prey to a small  box.
