On the (more) serious side, though…
Not listening…as in really listening to what the other person is trying to tell you. Too many people simply wait for the other person to pause, take a breath, etc., and then launch right into arguing, without taking just a second or two to actually think, evaluate and weigh what the other person is saying.
They’d rather “be right” or “win” than listen.
Sure, a lively debate is fun, and can be exciting, but sometimes, we need to just shut the heck up, take a moment, and try to understand not just the words we’re hearing, but the motivation behind those words.
I guess it comes down to ego, or pride. Sometimes, we just have to be right, even if it means what we’re doing is wrong. And that’s a barrier that each of us can only overcome if we’re willing to admit that we’re actually the ones who put it there in the first place.
