Dear Rohini,

Hope you are doing well in your new country after uncle shifted there. It has been so many years since we last met. Right now I and my family members are preparing ourselves and decorating our home for the biggest Indian festival i.e. Durga Puja.

As you know, India is a country known for festivals and we celebrate all festivals with our near and dear ones in a great way. Some of the most important festivals are Durga puja, Ganesh puja, Diwali. Raksha bandhan and Holi. Durga puja as you know is the time when Goddess Durga comes here leaving her abode kailash for four days, with her four children. Diwali is another great festival, also known as festival of lights. We decorate our homes and burn crackers on this evening.

We worship goddess Lakshmi and god Ganesh. during Holi. We celebrate the entire day by sprinkling colors on our friends and acquaintances. On the other hand during Ganesha puja, we celebrate the oncoming auspiciousness that starts the occasion of festivity in India, with the birthday of Lord Ganesha on Ganesh chaturthi. Another day is that of Rakhsha bandhan when all sisters tie rakhi on the hands of their brothers to pray for their welfare and well-being.

I hope to would be delighted to know all these.  Do share your reactions upon hearing this, as well.

Your loving friend,

Nita.

Some of the festivals celebrated in India are: Eid, Onam, christmas, Diwali, Holi.

Eid is a festival celebrated by Muslims in our country. Eid is also called festival of breaking the fast. 30 days of fasting is done before the day of Eid. The Eid is the one and only day where muslims are not permitted to fast.

Onam: Onam is the biggest and most important festival in the state of kerala. It is a harvest festival and is celebrated with joy and happiness. People make athapookalam (making design with flowers) in home, decorate houses, etc. Onam is celebrated as a 10 days festival.

Christmas is celebrated on the day of 25th december every year. It is a festival on the memory of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated as a religious and cultural celebration. People decorate their houses with christmas trees and exchange their gifts. It is not only celebrated in India but also in billions of countries.

Diwali is the festival of lights which celebrated in the autumn season every year. It is celebrated by hindu, jain, sikhs, etc. But it is also celebrated by every religion in our country as a festuval of joy and lights. People decorate their homes, light diyas, light fireworks etc.

Holi is the festival of colours. This festival signifues the arrival of spring and end of winter. All the people in India celebrate this festival as a festival of love, play, laugh and happiness. Im this festival everyone sprays or throws colour on the others and also throws water with colours.

These are the 5 festivals mainly celebrated in our country. There are other lots and lots of festivals are celebrated in India.
