Under normal secretion, hydrochloric acid helps us in the following ways:-

¶ It helps in digesting food.

¶ Hydrochloric acid is produced in the stomach.

¶ It helps to break on proteins into enzymes.

¶ It also helps our body to kill bacteria.

the walls our stomach has gastric glands which have three secretions- protein digesting enzyyme called pepsin, mucus and hydrochloric acid to facilitate the work of pepsin in normal secretion. But if it accumulates in large amount or excessive secretion of HCl damages the inner lining of stomach. and function of mucus is to protect the inner lining of stomach from destroying.
