Sir,
appears,
I refer to the report called Vet in the Forest' ('The Daily News', 3 April). I was shocked to read
in it that the vet who went with the Forest Department team to tranquillise the injured elephant
had been tranquillising monkeys and had no experience at all with elephants. As a result, it
he had failed to keep a syringe ready to use at short notice and the team had almost
missed an opportunity to tranquillise the elephant when it was stationary.
Who knows what would have happened if the injured elephant had gone away without being treated
or if the dart had misfired in some way, causing more harm than good? I think it is a real shame that
the Forest Department could not send a more experienced vet for the job.

Now think of a different thing that struck you in the report-how a young man had helped the
injured elephant. You are deeply impressed and want to say so through a Letter to the Editor.
