1) Burn test - You can take a small strand of thread from the dress and burn it. When burnt, if it gives a smell of burning hair, it will be natural silk or pure silk. On the other hand, if it gives a smell of burning paper/plastic, it will be artificial silk.

2) Touch and feel test - Pure silk is smooth to touch and has a luxurious feel, if held against light, it has a pearlescent shine (it will change colours at different   angles). Artificial silk will only give a flat shine.
