Many of us here have watched pirated movies. Played pirated games. Listened to pirated songs. Read pirated books. I did too.
For a long time.
But, I had this thought growing, that isn't this all wrong? Shouldn't we be.. Not doing it?
Alas, like in most cases, I bowed down to peer pressure.
One day, I decided I'd definitely buy paid stuff after I started earning. “Yes, that's the right thing”, I thought.
That day came, and went. I didn't change.
After much deliberation, I firmly decided to quit it. Emptied my hard disk.
I felt lighter. Like, physically lighter.
I can't deny the fact that the advent of Hotstar, Amazon prime, Netflix, Saavn etc has helped me in this effort. Not to mention the drop in data rates. Now it's much easier to do what I have done.
Look at the end credits of a movie. Read the preface of a book. Check out the credits in a game. Check the things you don't usually check.
Hundreds of people. Thousands of hours. Millions of dollars. All these combine to create something beautiful. You might be able to get it for free, but does that mean it has no VALUE?
You wouldn't steal a CD from a store. A book from Landmark. Think about it.
I can't assure you that you'll go to heaven if you do this. I didn't do it to be called a good man. I'm doing it to show respect. I’m doing it because I think it's right. And I'm sure I'm not hurting anyone by doing this. Quite the contrary.
Everyone has an opinion. A different viewpoint. That's how it should be. But, One viewpoint need not be wrong for another to be RIGHT. So, while I'm laying out what I do, I'm not professing it to be right. All I'm trying to say is that.. there's a choice. There's always a choice.
Sometimes it may seem that there's no other choice. But there is. We refuse to see it because it’s the harder one.

piracy means stealing of one's data or identity from computer network or it's the unauthorised use of another person's work.
