GUIDELINES FOR DIARY WRITING

A diary entry has no fixed format or style of writing. However, a good diary entry does contain the following features:

A good diary writing contains the place, the date, the day and even the time of writing. For example:

Agra

20th July, 20XX

Friday, 8:00 p.m.

A diary doesn’t need any formal heading. However, it is optional. If you want, you can give a suitable heading.

The style and tone is generally informal and personal. However, it depends on the subject. Sometimes the tone can be philosophical and reflective too. You can freely express your viewpoints and feelings.

As the diary is writer’s personal document, the diary entry doesn’t need any signature. It is totally optional.

You can evolve your own suitable style depending on the topic of your writing

Dear Diary

Today was a challenging day. A train accident took place right in front of my eyes. Naturally, I chipped in to help pull the passengers trapped in the overturned coaches. It was a very chaotic scene.  The crowd that had gathered, wanted to help, but no one knew what to do. I asked them to help me push the door open. Once that was done, we started working as a team, pulling people out and helping them reach a safer area. Other volunteers helped put the injured into ambulances, while yet others tried to calm down the passengers. Luckily, we were able to rescue most passengers, but had to wait for cranes to clear the debris before everyone could be pulled out. The sight of shell-shocked children was heart wrenching. I was glad about most people being safe, but wish everyone had survived.
