Tidying my room

I haven’t always been an enthusiast in cleaning and tidying my surroundings. So, my room is very untidy for my parents and they have always been urging me to tidy it. I love my things scattered in the room and am least bothered to tidy them. But the day finally came when there was no place to walk on the floor, no place on the bed to sleep, no place on the table and I finally decided to tidy things up.

Firstly, I decided to clear the mess on the floor so that it would be easier for me to walk while cleaning the room. I exercise every day so the yoga mat was spread on one corner on which I had tripped many times. So I rolled it and kept it under the shelf. Those days I was engaged in a new hobby of painting and I felt that there is no better place to do painting than on the floor. So all the art stuff was scattered and I had to gather them up. I arranged the paint bottles in their case along with the brushes and kept them on the shelf with the sketchbook. There were some books I was reading and left on the floor. So, I neatly arranged them on the shelf. Finally, the floor was tidy.

I went on to my bed that was really very untidy. I sorted my clothes lying on the bed into clean ones and dirty ones. The dirty ones went straight to the laundry and I folded the clean ones and neatly kept them in my dresser. I threw the old bedsheet for laundry and covered the bed with a clean bedsheet. My table was filled with books and stationery. I arranged the books on the shelf. Then I arranged my stationary neatly in the pen stand and my table was looking as good as new. My parents were watching me tidy the room with tremendous joy in their hearts. They presented me with a small plant to be kept on my window sill.

I realized the importance of a tidy room as I felt more productive in a clean space than earlier. My parents’ point was to make me more responsible for keeping my things tidy and were proud that I did it. That experience taught me a lot and I am sure I will never see my room untidy ever again.

Answer:

The first thing you would notice in my room would be things strewn all around. Cleaning was one thing I did not like to do and like all mothers, my mother too liked to run a tight ship, but I was a hindrance to all that because every time she cleaned my room, I messed it up again.

It was not that I did not like cleanliness, it was just that I believed I found order in chaos. I knew or thought I knew where everything was and it would not be difficult to find anything. With holidays around the comer and my cousins visiting our home, my mother gave me a deadline to clean the room as I had to share my room with my cousins.

I had no clue from where to begin, so I started picking up things from all over and sorting them out. I found there were quite a bit of dirty clothes thrown around and I felt ashamed that there were stinking clothing flung all around the room. I put all the dirty ones for washing and soon kept all the things in the right place. I found a lot of things I did not use and so, I packed them up according to their usage and asked my mom to give the rest away to clarify.
