Sir/ma'am

I am Jyoti Sharma, the School Captain of Bloomsbury Senior Secondary School. Recently, our school performed a simple act of kindness by keeping the surrounding places clean and green. Thousands of students from our school devoted themselves to maintaining a healthy environment. I hope that you would be happy to allow us a column in your highly esteemed daily to spread awareness regarding how we put cleanliness into action.

"A clean place is a safe place," our teachers always taught us. In the beginning, the area around our school also remained dirty. People littered the roads and garbage used to pile up everyday on the sidewalk. The students and the teachers made up their minds to begin a cleanliness drive. We invested our efforts into cleaning the area. These were the steps that we followed to lead our area to an asylum of cleanliness:

  • We did not throw garbage anywhere but in the dustbin and informed others to do the same.
  • The teachers organized a one-minute-cleanliness challenge before every class.
  • We planted saplings around the school field. Some children even distributed plants in bottles on their birthdays.
  • We avoided the use of plastic objects, from bottles to carry bags. These are harmful to the nature.
  • Many students switched to school buses for their transportation to reduce air pollution.
  • We wore masks and swept and cleaned the pavements on the sides of the school.

All of this hard work contributed to making a clean environment for the school and its lovely students and teachers. Surprisingly, our school became one of the cleanest schools in the city and was rewarded for the excellent work.

I request you to draw attention to this topic and arouse public interest. Such simple actions to maintain cleanliness can and will go a long way in helping the nature as well as the mankind.

Yours sincerely,

Jyoti Sharma
