There are a number of factors due to which acid doesn't burn stomach :-

  • Acid produced by the stomach is quite dilute .

  • Stomach lining has a coating of mucous which protects it against acid .

  • Acid is produced only when we eat something and most of itis utilised in digesting it.

  • Even then sometimes when acid is produced more than the requirement, it causes stomach burns( acidity and ulceration .
