Area = 28

xy = 28 ----->(1)

perimeter = 22

2(x + y) = 22

x + y = 11

x = (11 - y) ------> (2)

Putting (2) in equation (1) we get:

(11 - y) y = 28

=> 11y - y² = 28

Solving the quadratic equation by splitting method:

=> y² - 11y + 28 = 0

=> y² - 4y - 7y + 28 = 0

=> y(y - 4) - 7(y - 4) = 0

=> (y - 7)(y - 4) = 0

=> y = 7, 4

Since, breadth (y) has smaller value than length. So we take y = 4cm

So, x = (11 - 4) = 7cm
