Answer:

In the above activity copper sulphate crystals which seem to be dry contain the water of crystallization and when these crystals are heated the water present in crystals is evaporated and the salt turns white. Water of crystallization is the fixed number of water molecules present in one formula unit of a salt.

I hope this help you

x is copper sulphate (CuSO₄)

z is graphite.

y is diamond.

  • Blue vitriol is just copper sulphate that has been hydrated with five moles of water to create copper sulphate pentahydrate, CuSO₄. 5H₂O (blue vitriol).
  • It had heated to evaporate the water content. Thus, it had no water of crystallization.
  • Because graphite is the most stable allotrope of carbon, all other allotropes convert to graphite at greater temperatures. In a vacuum, diamond converts to graphite at temperatures ranging from 1800K to 2000K. As a result, z is graphite, and y is diamond.
