Zero population growth rate depends upon the following health issues

✓Infant mortality rate
✓Average life span
✓… Etc
World average ‘fertility rate’ to maintain a zero population growth is 2.11 children per woman.

Total fertility rate - Wikipedia

At this point of time, India is an overpopulated and under nourished country.

We need to reduce our population, so that in the cities and urban areas we can have 1900 people per sqkm with dense vegetation, rather than 10 to 25 times that number.

In the rural areas we have a large number of landless labourers. We have to achieve that rural population which gives each farmer a decent land holding and advanced farming technologies.

As per the website (wiki) - Indian states ranking by fertility rate - India’s fertility rate is 2.4 which is way above the 2.11 level.

Alarmingly the fertility rates are increasing in J&K, WB, Maharashtra.

Fertility rates are above 3 in states like UP, Bihar, etc.
