Zinc and aluminium both react with dilute HCl. Why does zinc react more quickly than aluminium?

I think your question is wrong and it is the other way round as aluminium is placed higher in the reactivity series

Answer: Because Aluminium is more reactive than zinc.

Explanation:

Zn+2HCl\rightarrow ZnCl_2+H_2

2Al+6HCl\rightarrow 2AlCl_3+3H_2

These are single replacement reactions is one in which a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its salt solution.

But the element which loses electrons more easily will be more reactive and aluminium lies higher in the reactivity series , thus reacts more quickly than zinc
