When Zinc is added to copper sulphate solution, zinc decomposes copper from its solution as zinc is more reactive than copper.

When zinc and copper sulphate react in the aqueous state, a simple displacement reaction will take place in which the zinc will displace the copper from the copper sulphate to form zinc sulphate. The colour of the solution will go from blue to colourless due to the change in the cation of the compound.
