Copper is below zinc on the reactivity index and thus cannot reduce zinc cations to the metal. It therefore will not dissolve at all, as no reaction will occur.
Placing a zinc rod in a copper sulphate solution on the other hand will see a reaction - the zinc will dissolve (as it reduces the Cu2+ ions to the elemental metal for the reason stated above), the blue colouration of the solution will fade and eventually disappear and copper metal will be deposited.
