The Balanced chemical equation is Zn + H2SO4→ ZnSO4+ H2. So,expect gas bubbles to appear in the acid. Test for the gas by placing a lighted wooden splinter near the mouth of the test tube. Splinter extinguishes with a “ pop “ sound a.k.a. An explosion ( if the reaction was done on a larger scale.) In fact, there would be an explosion during the experiment anyway. What you'd see/ hear would be only a pop but it's a small scale explosion.
