When Carbon is reacted to zinc oxide ( ZnO) it will release the oxygen and carbon mono oxide is formed by carbon reduction .

 

   ZnO   +   C    +  Δ     →    Zn   +   CO

   

Here we can see that afer heating the reaction , it will undergo a reduction process and form Zinc.
