Here is the answer.
Zinc liberated hydrogen gas when reacted with dilute HCl, whereas copper does not because Zn is highly reactive in nature with respect to H in HCl. Zn comes before H in reactivity series of metals whereas Cu comes at the bottom below H so Cu is unable to displace H from HCl and no hydrogen gas is liberated as no displacement reaction takes place.
