zinc liberates hydrogen gas when reacted with dil hydrochloric acid because zinc is placed above hydrogen in the reactivity series,the metals which are above hydrogen in the reactivity can only liberate hydrogen when reacted with acids.since copper is below hydrogen in the reactivity series, it could not liberate hydrogen gas.
