Zinc reacts with hydrochloric acid to liberate Hydrogen gas as it is more reactive than Hydrogen and hence, displace it. Copper is less reactive when compared to Hydrogen and hence cannot displace it. ... Zinc lies above Hydrogen whereas Copper lies below Hydrogen.
