When acid reacts with metal, theyform salt along with hydrogen gas. Zinc react with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen gas and the zinc is corroded into the solution of HCl forming zinc chloride ZnCl2 as you dry it the ZnCl2 is a white powdered salt.
