Amphoteric oxides are those oxides which react with both acids and alkalis to give salt and water, zinc oxide that is ZnO reacts with hydrochloric acid (HCl) as well as sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to give salt and water, salts formed in respective cases are Zinc chloride (ZnCl2) and sodium zincate(Na2ZnO2).
