Granulated zinc (Zn)reacts with dil sulphuric acid (H2SO4) to produce hydrogen (H2)gas

Granulated zinc is used instead of solid zinc as during the reaction zinc sulphate gets deposited on the surface of Zn which slows down and eventually stops the production of H2 gas. Hence using granulated zinc provides larger surface area for the reaction and large amount of H2 gas is prepared.

Dilute H2SO4 is used instead of concentrated H2SO4 because conc. H2SO4 behaves as an acid as well being a strong oxidising agent reduces to SO2 instead of liberating H2 gas as the following reaction :
