In the reaction: Zn + 2HCl ⇒ ZnCl2  + H2 ↑

The reducing agent = Zinc(Zn)
The oxidising agent = H2

Answer: Reducing agent: Zn

Oxidizing agent : HCl

Explanation: I) Oxidation reaction : When there is an increase in oxidation state number.

Zn\rightarrow Zn^{2+}+2e^-

Reduction reaction : when there is a decrease in oxidation state number.

2H^{+}+2e^-\rightarrow H_2

Zinc metal has undergone oxidation, as its oxidation state is changing from 0 to 2+. Zinc metal is getting converted into zinc ions.

H^+ ions has undergone reduction, as its oxidation state is changing from +1 to 0. Copper ions are getting converted into copper metal.

Zn is a reducing agent.

The chemical agent which itself get oxidized and reduce others is called reducing agent.

HCl is an oxidizing agent.

The chemical agent which itself get reduced and oxidize others is called oxidizing agent.
