ZnO+C=Zn +CO
why does carbon reacts with oxygen in this reaction since Zinc is more electropositive and also ionic bonds i.e zinc oxide are more stable than covalent bonds i.e CO​​

In the above experiment 'C' combines with oxygen to form CO i.e. it itself is oxidised means it behaves as an reducing agent.
