ZnO+C=Zn +CO
why does carbon reacts with oxygen in this reaction since Zinc is more electropositive and also ionic bonds i.e zinc oxide are more stable than covalent bonds i.e CO​​​

In the above equation, 'C' combines with oxygen to form CO, i.e. it itself is oxidized means it behaves as a reducing agent.
