Zoe is pole-vaulting. At the end of her approach run, she has a horizontal velocity of 8 m/s and her center of gravity is 1.0 m high. If zoe's mass is 50 kg, estimate how high she should be able to vault if her kinetic and potential enrgies are all converted to potential energy

Zoe should be able to reach 4.27 m height

Explanation:

The kinetic energy is given as

K=\frac{1}{2} mv2

Here, m is the mass of the Zoe and v is the velocity of her.

Given m =50 kg and v = 8 m/s.

so,

K=\frac{1}{2}50kg\times(8m/s)^2

K = 1600 J.

as zoe's center of gravity is 1.0 m high, so potential energy

U_{initial}  = mgh

U_{initial} = 50 kg\times9.8m/s^2\times 1.0 m.

             =  490 J.

since total energy converted in PE,

Total energy,E =  1600 J + 490 J

                      E = 2090 J

Therefore,

E=U_{final} =mgH

substitute the value, we get

2090J=50kg\times9.8m/s^2\times H

H = 4.265 m

Thus, Zoe should be able to reach 4.27 m height.
