About Fossil Fuels:

Fossil fuels have been formed from the organic remains of long-dead plants and animals. They contain a high percentage of carbon and hydrocarbons. These are  primarily formed from the remains of the decayed plants and animals of the carboniferous era.

Effects of Burning fossil fuels:

When fossil fuels are burned, they release nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which contribute to the formation of smog and acid rain.

1. When fuels are incompletely burnt, they release carbon monoxide gas into the atmosphere. This gas is very dangerous as it is poisonous in nature.

2. The combustion of fossil fuels also releases a large amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which is responsible for global warming. Global warming is a rise in the overall temperature of earth’s surface.

3. Burning of coal and diesel releases sulphur dioxide gas. This gas is extremely corrosive and suffocating in nature.

Hope this helps!
