We can use the Elimination method to solve this!

Since, its a rectangle, opposite sides are equal.

$x + y = 30cm$

$x - y = 14cm$

$y \: and \: - y \: got \: eliminated$

$x + x = 30 + 14$

$2x = 44$

$x = \frac{44}{2}$

$x = 22$

Putting value of x=22, we get,

$22 + y = 30$

$y = 30 - 22$

$y = 8$
