  • K. Satchidanandan, an Indian poet and critic who was born in 1946, writes in both Malayalam and English. He is a forerunner of Malayalam modern poetry and a bilingual literary critic, dramatist, editor, columnist, translator, as well as the former editor of the journal Indian Literature and the former secretary of Sahitya Akademi. Additionally, he supports causes including the environment, human rights, and free software. He is a well-known lecturer on topics related to current Indian literature. He is a social champion for secular anti-caste beliefs. The Kerala Literature Festival is directed by him.
  • He received his early schooling in a country school before graduating with a degree in biology from Christ College in Irinjalakuda and earning his master's in English from Maharaja's College in Ernakulam. He graduated from the University of Calicut with a PhD in post-structuralist poetics. In 1968, he started working as an English lecturer at K.K.T.M. Govt. College in Pulloot. In 1970, he transferred to Christ College in Irinjalakuda and took a position as professor of English there. In 1992, he chose to leave his position and become editor of Indian Literature, the English journal of the Indian National Academy in Delhi. He was chosen in 1996 to serve as the Academy's Secretary and chief executive, positions he held until his retirement in 2006.
