0.1) Two identical metallic spheres of exactly equal masses are taken. One is given a positive charge q C and other an equal negative charge. Are their masses after charging equal?
0.2) Can two like charges attract each other? It yes, than how?(both 1 marks question, answer in 2 – 3 line)

1) No.Their masses will not equal.

The positive charge of a body is due to deficit of electrons while the negative charge is due to surplus of electrons.

Hence the mass of negatively charged sphere will be slightly more than that of the positively charged spheres.

2) Yes. Two like charges can attract each other.

If one charge is larger than the other , the larger charge induces equal and opposite charge on the nearer end of the body with smaller charge.

The opposite induced charge is larger than the small like charge initially present on it.

Answer:

Answer 1.

Their masses will not equal.

The body from which the electrons get removed becomes positively charged and the body to which the electrons get transferred becomes negatively charged.

Hence, when one of the two identical metallic spheres is charged positive and the other negative, their masses after charging will not be equal.

Answer 2.

Yes, two like charges attract each other.

Yes, two balls having same kind of charge can attract each other. Because of induction, they induce opposite kind of charges on the faces of each other when they are brought nearer.

Hence, they behave as oppositely charged balls and hence they attract each other.
