Combustion of potassium in air is represented by the reaction -

K + n/2 O2 → KOn

Therefore, 1 mol of K will produce 1 mol of KOn.

Molecular weight of KOn formed is calculated by -

0.2429 / 39 = 0.44 / x

x = 39 × 0.44 / 0.2429

x = 71 g/mol

Now weight of O in one molecule of KOn -

W = 71 - 39

W = 32 g

No of O atoms in one KOn molecule -

n = 32 / 16

n = 2

Therefore, molecular formula of product is KO2.
