mass % = given mass ÷ total mass × 100
for aluminum,
0.18÷0.34×100= 53%
for oxygen
0.16÷0.34×100=47%

Percent composition is nothing but the percentage by mass of each and every element present in a compound.

Examples: The percent composition of water is 20% hydrogen and 80% oxygen.

Given, weight of sample = 0.34g

Given, weight of aluminium = 0.18g

So, weight of oxygen = 0.34 - 0.18 = 0.16g

mass % = (given mass ÷ total mass) × 100

For aluminum,

Percentage composition = (0.18÷0.34) × 100

= 53%

For oxygen,

Percentage composition = (0.16÷0.34) × 100

= 47%
