Answer:

Characteristics of diffraction of light are as follows:

a) The diffraction is caused by the interference of the secondary waves emitted from different parts of a wave front.

b) In the case of diffraction, the width of the fringes is never equal.

c) In the case of diffraction, the distance between the bright and the dark fringes gradually decreases.

d) In the case of diffraction, dark fringes are not completely dark.

e) The light intensity of the bright fringes is never the same. The intensity at the central position is maximum and gradually decreases at both sides.

Characteristics of interference are –

Interference is produced for two coherent sources superposition at a point.

In interference, the internal distance between bright and dark fringes are the same.

In the interference, there is no light in the dark fringe. It remains completely dark.

All the bright fringes have the same intensity of light.
