See you could the lumps of galaxies in this pic and each of them are the average galaxy of about 5-10 thousand light year you could imagine how large are they light travels at the speed of 3×10^6 km/s and if the beam of light were to be projected from one end to the other it would take 5000 thousand years light to go through the other so you could imagine how large an galaxy is and if you would talk about the observable universe it is 93 billion light years and named observable because this only the region where light could reach us and beyond that every thing is unknown
