• This happens due to the rotation of the earth on its axis around the sun, the sun rays fall mostly on the equator and the northern parts have summers in months of March to November.  

• While the new Zealand that is located in the southern hemisphere does not get complete sunlight as does the equator and hence there is a difference in the length of day and night.

• When is winter season in the north that is northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun the southern hemisphere is much closer to the rays of the sun and thus gets direct heat.

• Hence has summer and due to the nature of Christmas that is celebrated on 25 Dec, new Zealand celebrates it in summers.
