Answer:

1 added to the product of two consecutive even numbers gives 289, what are the numbers?

Galaxy S20 Plus at just Rs. 34,999 with Flipkart Smart Upgrade.

The two consecutive even integers are:-

±18 and ±16.

Solution:-

Let us consider two even numbers as x and y.

Then, x = y + 2 {equation 1}

given that:-

(x*y) + 1 = 289

x*y = 288

Substituging equation 1, we get:-

(y+2)y = 288

y² + 2y = 288

y² + 2y - 288 = 0

After solving this we get

y = 16 and y= -18

But both of them are right. If we substitute both x and y value seperately, we will get

x = 18 and y = 16

Also we get

x = -18 and y = -16

I hope you got the answer and I hope this helped you.

Thank you.
