CRITICAL APPRECIATION
Setting:
The poem is set in the countryside as the persona talks about the river, hills and surrounding area.
Themes:
The main theme in this poem is man and life. The hidden meaning behind the word 'river' refers to man. Man can choose to lead a stable life or move around in search of his dreams and experiences. During his travels, man collects experiences and memories. Besides that, an also faces challenges in life and this can prompt him to be destructive.
Moral Values:
We must strive for stability in life.
We must value life experiences.
We should keep good memories of life and people close to us.
We should face our problems positively.
We should not destroy other people when facing challenges.
We should take care of our environment by not polluting our environment and cutting down trees.

Metaphor
One literary device used in this poem is the metaphor. The poet shows similarities between the river and human beings.
The river is described as being a wanderer, hoarder, baby, singer, dancer and monster.

Even though the writer talks about the river yet she has been able to give it human-like abilities, functions and feelings.

Answer:
Fear is defined as “a feeling of concern about somebody's safety or about
something bad that might happen."Fear is an emotion which can be a tool for
self protection and fear itself misplaced can lead one towards self sabotage
and destruction. Fear arises with the threat of harm, either physical,
emotional, or psychological. While traditionally considered a "negative”
emotion, fear is actually an emotion which helps us to cope . It is a tool for self
protection against danger. Fear by itself is an emotion which can be a tool for
self - protection. It helps one , avoid imminent danger. It is the fear of being
run over that makes people alert before crossing the road.
Wearing masks,
sanitizing the hands, has been a protective measure that one is taking against
the deadly corona virus attack. Fear alerts us. In some circumstances we
become extra alert and extra aware. The fear of a "If I don't save for a rainy
day, I will have no money, so I better save now."is a rational protective fear
for the future Fear feeds off association, experiences, memories, forbidden
desires or resistance to change. Fear when misplaced and misdirected gives
rise to self doubt, aggression, possessiveness and self harm. People react to
fear in three different ways: Fight Flight and Freeze.
