Anything which occupies space and has mass and volume is said to be Matter . Matter is everything around us . There are four types of natural matter ,

  1. Solid
  2. Liquid
  3. gas
  4. Plasma

There is also another one named ' Bose-Einstein condensates' which is man-made.

1. Solid : The molecules in solids are tightly packed such that there is no gap between them. Solids have a definite shape and volume.

2. Liquid : The molecules in liquids are held some tight but not as tight as solids . Liquids have a definite volume but indefinite shape . Shape of liquids depends on the shape of the container. The properties of liquids are also said to be intermediate bewteen the properties of solids and gases.

3. Gas : The molecules in gases are freely held. Gases don't have a definite shape and volume . Also they have low density.
