1/4 divided by -3/8. I’m confused if when we reciprocate the fraction do we have to keep it as -8/3 or 8/-3. Please explain.

Given : 1/4 divided by -3/8.

To Find : Value

Solution:

if a fraction a/b is multiplied by -1

Then -1 * (a/b)  = - a/b  = (-a)/b  = a/(-b)

Hence on reciprocate the fraction you can  keep it as -8/3 or 8/(-3)

Both are the same things

1/4 divided by -3/8.

= 1/4  ÷ ( -3/8)

= (1/4) × (-8/3)

= -2/3

1/4 divided by -3/8  = -2/3
