1/8 of a pole is in the mud, 1/3 is in water and the rest of 52 metres is above water.find the length of the pole.

then 

1/8 of x is x/8

1/3 of rope is x/3

then 


x/8 + x/3 +52= x

52=x-x/8 -x/3

52=(24x-3x-8x)/24

52*24=24x-11x

1248 = 13x

1248/13= x

96= x

then the full length of rope is 96metres

so, 1/8of x +1/3of x + 52m = x meter.
11x+1248 =24x
13x = 1248
x = 96m.
