1. A boy runs along a straight line with a velocity of 4m/s for 10 seconds. Thereafter he gets tiered he runs with a velocity 1m/s for 5 seconds. If the boy stood for 5 seconds before starting to walk what is his average velocity?

Answer:

2.25 m/s

Explanation:

Distance = Speed * Time

Distance travelled by the boy in the first 10 seconds = 4 * 10 = 40 m

Distance travelled by the boy in the next 5 seconds = 0 m

Distance travelled by the boy in the last 5 seconds = 5 * 1 = 5 m

Average velocity = Total Displacement / Total Time

(In this case, distance and displacement will be same as he travelled in a straight line.)

Total distance = 40 + 0 + 5 = 45 m

Total time = 10 + 5 + 5 = 20 s

Average Velocity = 45/20 m/s = 2.25 m/s

Hence, the average velocity of the boy is 2.25 m/s.
