1. Answer the following questions on the basis of your understanding of the paragraph and the
related studied concepts .
Modern Periodic Table is based on increasing order of atomic number. There are 18 groups and 7
periods in the Modern Periodic Table .
Group 1 called Alkali metals contains elements Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na) , Potassium (K) ,
Rubidium (Rb) ,Caesium (Cd) and Francium (Fr)
Group 2 called Alkaline earth metals contains elements Beryllium (Be), Magnesium (Mg),
Calcium (Ca), Strontium (Sr) ,Barium (Ba) ,Radium(Ra)
Modern Periodic Law states that “ the physical and chemical properties of all the elements are
the periodic function of their atomic number.
With increase in atomic number the number of shells increases ,do the atomic radii increases .
Graph of atomic radii of Group 1 and Group 2 elements is shown here .
1. a. Write the increasing order of atomic radii of Group 1 elements.
b .Compare the atomic radii of Ca and K . Justify your answer.
